O’Brien Co. Authorities Investigate Theft Of Chlorine Cylinder

November 22, 2014

(Primghar)– The theft of a cylinder that has chlorine gas in it has northwest Iowa officials deeply concerned.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office says the tank was reported missing around 3:00 p.m. Friday. The slender metal tank is silver in color and is four to five feet tall. It’s clearly labeled as chlorine and has warning labels on it. It’s believed the tank has about 135 pounds of chlorine in it. It was taken from a locked storage area at a rural water treatment station.

Misuse of chlorine is extremely dangerous and authorities say contact with that kind of concentration can be fatal.

Anyone that comes into contact with the cylinder or has any information as to its whereabouts should contact their local law enforcement agency immediately.
