NW Ia Bone, Joint & Sports Surgeons Decide On Joint Surgical Center With Spencer Hospital

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– The Northwest Iowa Bone, Joint and Sports Surgeons say they want to develop a joint surgical center with Spencer Hospital.

The hospital’s plans for an expansion were put on hold last month when orthopedic surgeons told hospital leadership they were thinking about building their own outpatient surgical center. But Cheryl Ahern, Clinic Manager for the Northwest Iowa Bone, Joint and Sports Surgeons, says they’ve decided building their own surgical center wouldn’t be feasible.

Ahern says the project is on a very agressive timetable. She says orthopedic and hospital officials will meet today (Fri.) with architects to start planning.

A dollar estimate of cost on the project won’t be known until later in the planning process.

Ahern says the project is important in order to keep up with ever changing surgical technology and procedures.
