(Spencer)– Advocates for those 65 and over remind everyone the month of May is “Older Americans Month”.
Cynthia Beauman of the Northwest Aging Association in Spencer says the theme for this year’s observance is “Age Strong! Live Long!”. She says the association has some special events planned to coincide with the theme. Among them is a one-mile fun walk the week of May 17th. Participants will receive a special t-shirt. They can sign up at local Dinner Date Sites.
Beauman says another event is intended to increase participation in the congregate meal program known as “Dinner Date”. She says those that have never participated in the program are invited to come out for a free meal just to see what it’s like.
And when it comes to staying active, Beauman says the Northwest Aging Association is in the process of installing Wii (wee) gaming systems with the wii sports and fit programs. Beauman says a system will be installed at the senior center in Spirit Lake.
