Northwest Aging To Monitor Local Assisted Living Facilities

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– Assisted living programs in a 12 county area of northern Iowa will be under the watchful eyes of the Northwest Aging Association. The Spencer-based association has been awarded a contract by the Iowa Department of Elder Affairs to monitor assisted living programs in Buena Vista, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Hancock, Kossuth, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, Sioux and Winnebago counies.

Cynthia Beauman, Executive Director of the Northwest Aging Association, says case management staff will do the monitoring. Beauman says the standards assisted living facilities need to meet are spelled out in administrative rules. She says Northwest Aging’s case management staff will be trained on those rules so they know what to look for.
