(Spencer)– Northwest Aging Association is looking for anyone 60 and over interested in running for seats on the Older Iowans Legislature in Clay, O’Brien, Buena Vista and Palo Alto counties.
Cynthia Beauman, the association’s Executive Director, says the Older Iowans Legislature convenes every September at the Iowa Statehouse to craft proposed legislation to be presented to the actual General Assembly.
Beauman encourages anyone interested in running for one of the four open seats to contact or stop by her office in Spencer as soon as possible to pick up a nomination petition. Petitions must contain signatures of 20 or more eligible voters age 60 and over from their respective community. Nominations will be accepted until March 2nd. Elections will be held at Dinner Date Sites in respective towns in April.
Elections for Older Iowans Legislature delegates for Dickinson, Emmet, Lyon, Osceola and Sioux counties will be held in 2005.
