(Estherville)– No injuries were reported in a house fire Friday in Estherville.
Fire Chief Travis Sheridan says crews were called around 7:45 am to 626 West 6th Avenue North and found smoke coming from a window on the east side of the reisdence. Crews made entry but Sheridan says things quickly intensified and they had to exit. He says an exterior attack was then conducted, and once the fire was under control, they went back into the house and conducted overhaul operations while also putting out hot spots.
Sheridan says the fire originated in a bedroom. Fortunately, he says the door to the room was closed, which helped contain the fire to the one room, which sustained extensive fire damage. Only minor smoke damage was reported to the rest of the home.
Sheridan says while an exact cause is under investigation, it appears the fire was likely caused by an electrical issue.
He says it serves as a reminder to keep doors closed. Sheridan says it can help slow the spread of fire, heat and smoke.
Firefighters were on the scene Friday about two hours.
