(Worthington, Mn.)– Severe weather that tore through the region early Wednesday evening turned deadly in southwest Minnesota. The Minnesota State Patrol says one person was killed in a collision on Interstate 90 that was caused by some power lines that were blown down on the eastbound lanes of the freeway near Worthington.
Troopers say 37-year-old Diego Campos of Chile was driving a 2021 Chevrolet and had stopped for the downed lines. Authorities say a 2019 Freightliner semi driven by 26-year-old Jaskaran Singh of Ottawa, Canada, collided with the Chevrolet. A passenger in the vehicle driven by Campos, 30-year-old Martha Lilian Llanos Rodriguez of Mexico City, died in the collision.Campos and two other passengers were taken to the Worthington hospital. Troopers say a 2009 Pontiac driven by 23-year-old Tyler Gilbery of Tea, South Dakota, actually collided with the downed power lines. He was also taken to the Worthington hospital.
The incident took place a little before 6:00 pm.
