(Spirit Lake)– Don’t look now but another scam is making the rounds. It’s similar to others in that it seems to target businesses.
The scam is disemminated through a fax said to be from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The letter says you can collect on a share of 144 million dollars left behind when the country’s President was supposedly assassinated. It asks you to send your name and the name of your bank, your account numbers, company business name and address, telephone numbers, and so on.
If you get such a letter, throw it away. The Dickinson county sheriff’s office has had several reports of this letter turning up locally on fax machines in the past several days. They say it’s a scam.
Authorities say you should NEVER give confidential information such as credit card numbers, bank account numbers and other such information to anyone you don’t know.
