(Spirit Lake)– The new President of Iowa Lakes Community College is calling on the legislature to address funding inequities this session.
Dr. Michael Hupfer says it simply isn’t fair that community colleges are taking a back seat to K-12 schools and public universities. He’s concerned it will lead to a decline in enrollment at community colleges.
Doctor Hupfer says community colleges fill a very special niche that the larger universities aren’t designed for. He said he’s extremely proud of the role Iowa Lakes has played in the region with its various programs and how the community has benefitted from them.
Dr. Hupfer has been at Iowa Lakes Community College since November 16th when he started as Chief Operating Officer and Interim President. He officially took over as President January 1st when Jim Billings’ retirement became official.
Hupfer comes to Iowa Lakes from Des Moines Area Community College where he was Vice President of Human Resources the last four years.
