New Date Set For Clay County School Tax Vote

November 23, 2014

(Spencer)– The date for a special election on a School Infrastructure Local Option tax in Clay county is being pushed back about a month.

The election had originally been set for August 26th. But it’s being pushed back to September 30th to meet a mandate that says the election has to be held 90 days prior to when the county would start collecting the tax. September 30th is exactly 92 days from January 1st…when the county would start collecting the tax.

If the countywide vote passes, Spencer Superintendent Glenn Lohman says the number one priority for Spencer would be to build a new Middle School.

The Clay County Board of Supervisors are expected to approve the September 30th election date at their meeting Tuesday, July 1st.
