New Association Formed To Protect Upper & Lower Gar; Minnewashta

November 23, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A new protective association is being formed to address issues on Upper and Lower Gar lakes and lake Minnewashta.

Paul Netsch is President of the Three Lakes Improvement Association, which held its first board of directors meeting last week.

Netsch says they’ll be addressing drainage and run-off, bridge safety, poor water quality and the shallow depths of the lakes. He says dredging is one of the things they’ll be looking into.

Netsch says they’re currently in the process of building up a membership base. Once that’s done, he says they’ll start meeting with local governments, state lawmakers and officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Netsch says the philosophy of the Three Lakes Association will be somewhat different from other groups in that they’ll address the quality of water already in the lakes and that leaving them. Other organizations have emphasized the quality of water coming into lakes.
