(Spirit Lake)– While some progress has been made at providing more resources for Dickinson county youth, several needs remain.
That’s the finding of a recent “conversation on local youth development for the 21st century” that was held earlier this week in Spirit Lake.
The session was facilitated by Karen Byers, Dickinson County Youth Coordinator for the Iowa State University Extension Service. She says the meeting identified five priorities for area youth: creation of safe places and opportunities–recreational and otherwise; establishing a communications network; developing mentoring programs; promoting learning opportunities for youth to develop life skills; and infant and toddler day care and emergency day care centers.
Byers says the local needs will compared with those in other parts of the state and even nation. Findings will be shared with both state and federal lawmakers.
