(Spirit Lake)– Those much above normal temperatures we experienced through the month of January and the first two days of February are now a thing of the past.
A strong cold front moved through the region Thursday night bringing with it much colder canadian air. The National Weather Service says it’s also changed the patterns aloft. It says the region up until now had been enjoying a flow of mild air from the Pacific northwest. Now, the jet stream has developed a big buckle in it, allowing much colder air to move out of the arctic and canada into our area.
While it feels much colder than what we’ve been used to over the last several weeks, the National Weather Service says we’re actually normal for this time of year with daytime highs in the low to mid 20’s and overnight lows around 10 above.
The colder temperatures are expected to be around through atleast next week.
