Motorcycle Mishap Claims 13-Year-Old Passenger; Seriously Injures Driver

(Orleans)– A motorcycle accident late Friday night in Orleans has claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy and seriously injured a 21-year-old that was driving it.

No names have been released pending notification of relatives.

Spirit Lake police say the mishap took place around 11:00 p.m. on 253rd Avenue, or old Highway 327 south of 125th Street on the east side of Big Spirit Lake. Authorities say the motorcycle was northbound on 253rd Avenue when it went out of control and struck a legally parked vehicle.

The driver of the bike was taken to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake and was airlifted to a hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Spirit Lake Police were assisted by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance, Spirit Lake First Responders and the Spirit Lake Fire Department.
