Motorcycle Crash Claims Life Of Dickens Man

November 22, 2014

(Gillett Grove)– A motorcycle accident Sunday west of Gillett Grove has claimed the life of a Dickens man.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 53-year-old Harold James “Jimmy” Hagedorn of Dickens was riding a 2005 Harley Davidson westbound on County Road B53 when he failed to negotiate a curve. Authorities say Hagedorn then lost control. The motorcycle left the paved surface, went onto a gravel shoulder and came to rest in the intersection of 435th Street and 270th Avenue.

Rescue efforts by citizens were unsuccessful; Hagedon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say Hagedorn was not wearing a helmet. They add the mishap remains under investigation.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Iowa State Patrol, Spencer Hospital and Greenville Fire and Rescue.
