More Street Projects On The Docket In Arnolds Park

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– Some more streets in Arnolds Park will see improvements.

The city council Wednesday set September 8th as the date to receive bids on improvements to Linden Drive. The project includes extending a water line from Highway 71 to Iowa Street, milling existing pavement and putting down a new overlay. An engineer on the project says the underground work could be done yet this fall, with the street work to be completed next spring.

Forest Park Road is also slated for an upgrade. The council was supposed to act on plans and specifications for that project as well Wednesday, but the matter was tabled because of some paperwork that hasn’t been received yet.

And it was reported that improvements proposed for Zephyr Drive near the amusement park are on hold. Officials say some intakes proposed as part of the project will drain into a structure owned by the Iowa Department of Transportation and that they’re waiting for permission from the state to use that structure.

The council also voted to enter a 28E agreement with the state to maintain any new restrooms that may be built at Lower Gar State Park. The city already does the mowing there. Mayor Mike Mitchell says they’re hoping that in exchange for the city maintaining the facility, that the state will build the new restrooms.
