(Spirit Lake)– Model railroad and train buffs will converge on Spirit Lake Saturday.
The Prairie Lakes Division of the Thousand Lakes Model Railroaders will hold a meet and show at the Expo Building on the Dickinson county fairgrounds.
Dick Williams of Estherville is a member of the group. He says more than 60 people have registered for the event…some coming from as far away as Hutchinson, Minnesota and Omaha, Nebraska.
The day will feature a variety of contests, clinics and vendors, along with a ride on a real, live train. The group will ride the “Spirit of the Lakes” passenger train, operated by the Iowa/Northwestern Railroad, from Spirit Lake to Ocheyedan and back.
The event starts at 9:00 a.m. Saturday. Pre-registration is required to ride the train, but not for the meet itself.
