(Spirit Lake)– The front parking lot at Spirit Lake High School was the scene of a mock car crash this (Wed.) morning involving a drunken driver and a fatality.
Rescue crews and law enforcement were called to the scene of the mock crash shortly after 9:00 a.m.
Spirit Lake High School Principal Fred Skretta says the purpose of the drill is to heighten awareness among students over the dangers of drinking and driving. He says the exercise was held this week to coincide with prom which will be held Saturday.
Says several Spirit Lake High School students and some parents were involved in the mock tragedy.
Skretta thanks the various agencies that assisted in the exercise. They include the Spirit Lake Police Department, Spirit Lake Fire Department, Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance and Schuchert Funeral Home.
A similar exercise was held several years ago at Spirit Lake High School, and Skretta says they decided it was time for another one.
