Minor Injuries Reported In Two-Vehicle Accident

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Minor injuries were reported in a two-vehice accident Sunday in Spirit Lake.

Police say vehicles driven by 90-year-old George Brekk of Spirit Lake and 79-year-old Merle Simpson of rural Spirit Lake collided at the intersection of Highways nine and 71 and Keokuk Avenue.

76-year-old Leona Simpson, a passenger in the vehicle driven by Merle Simpson, was taken to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. She was treated for minor injuries and released. Two other passengers in the Simpson vehicle were listed as sustaining injuries but apparently didn’t seek immediate treatment. They’re identified as 61-year-old Sara Hanuske of Chuqiak, Alaska and 59-year-old Kathy Terveen of Amsterdam, Holland. That apparently was also the case with the two drivers.

Brekk was charged with failure to yield while making a left turn.

Five thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 2000 Toyota driven by Brekk with about three thousand dollars in damage estimated to a 1996 Buick driven by Simpson.

The collision took place shortly after 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
