(Spirit Lake)– A two-vehicle collision this (Wed.) morning in Spirit Lake resulted in minor injuries to four people.
Spirit Lake police say vehicles driven by 22-year-old Kyle Johnson of Hartley and 20-year-old Heather Christophel of Spirit Lake collided at the intersection of 32nd Street and 235th Avenue, or the YMCA Road.
Johnson and two passengers in his vehicle…19-year-old Jordan Mabra and 21-year-old Jordan Storevik…both of Spirit Lake…were taken to Lakes Regional Healthcare where they were treated for minor injuries. Christophel indicated she would be seeing her personal physician.
Authorities say Johnson was travelling on 32nd Street and failed to stop for a stop sign when he pulled into the path of the vehicle driven by Christophel, who was southbound on 235th Avenue.
Johnson, who was charged with failure to yield, told authorities his brakes failed.
A 1998 Pontiac driven by Christophel and a 1988 Buick driven by Johnson were both totaled.
The Spirit Lake Fire Department was called to the scene as a precaution for some gas that was leaking from one of the vehicles. The Environmental Protection Agency was also contacted as a precaution. Authorities say a small amount of gas leaked into a dry ditch, but wasn’t expected to cause any problems.
Spirit Lake police were also assisted on the scene by the Spirit Lake Fire Department, Spirit Lake First Responders and two Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulances.
The crash took place shortly before 8:00 this (Wed.) morning.
