Milford Home Heavily Damaged By Fire

November 23, 2014

(Milford)– Fire heavily damaged a house in Milford Monday evening.

Fire Chief Don Eckard says firefighters were called to 908 11th Street shortly before 6:00 p.m.

Eckard says a bedroom and bathroom were totally engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

The occupants of the house, the Dustin Godfredsen family, got out unharmed.

The house is owned by Tom Enderson of Milford.

Eckard says firefighters eventually got the blaze knocked down, but not before it gutted the two rooms. Smoke and heat damage was reported through the rest of the house.

Eckard says the blaze was caused by a child playing with a candle in a bedroom.

Firefighters had to battle 90 degree-plus heat. An ambulance from Lakes Regional Healthcare stood by on the scene. Eckard says some firefighters were checked over for the possibility of heat exhaustion, but no one required hospitalization.

Milford firefighters were on the scene slightly more than an hour and-a-half.
