Milford Downtown Project To Be Funded By TIF Funds

November 23, 2014

(Milford)– Business owners in downtown Milford got some good news Tuesday.

The city council held a public hearing for them to express concerns on assessments they were going to be charged to help pay for the downtown improvement project.

Mayor Virg Wahlman eased any concerns at the start of the meeting when he said the city could pay the entire project through money generated by a tax increment finance district that’s in place in the downtown area. Wahlman said the city should be able to do that without having to bond.

The council then voted three-to-one to amend the original resolution of necessity dropping the assessments. Another motion to adopt the revised resolution of necessity passed by the same margin.

Councilman Detlef Ball cast the lone no votes…saying he had concerns about making such a change at the spur of the moment.

Councilman Lynn Johnson was absent.
