Milford Council Opts Not To Address Parking Problem…For Now

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– The Milford City Council decided Monday NOT to address a parking problem on sidestreets adjacent to Okoboji High School.

The council has received complaints from residents in the area concerned over safety. And city crews have expressed concern over snow removal with all the vehicles parked on the streets. But it was reported Monday city crews have decided to put cones on the streets immediately following heavy snowfall to keep people from parking there until the snow is removed.

Council member Teresa Netsch says the problem is only temporary. She’s optimistic it will go away once the construction of a new gym and parking lot at the high school is complete. Netsch and her fellow councilmembers decided to wait to see what happens once the project is done. City staff will continue to monitor the situation, and if it gets worse, action could be taken.

The council reviewed two possible options Monday including two hour parking limits on streets near the school; another option would allow parking in that area by permit only. Again, no action was taken.
