(Milford)– Representatives of the Commercial Club were at Monday’s Milford City Council meeting requesting help from the city in stemming what they say is a tide of businesses leaving the city’s downtown area.
Spokesperson Mary Dannatt told the council they’re very concerned over the recent loss of four businesses from the downtown area. She requested assistance from the city in coming up with an incentive program to both retain existing businesses and attract new ones.
Dannatt and other representatives of the Commercial Club requested help from the city in writing grants, putting up banners, among other things. They also requested the city put a Hotel/Motel Tax referendum on the ballot. Council members seemed receptive to atleast looking into the process that’s needed to put the measure up for a vote.
They also requested the council establish a committee to look into the possibility of Milford signing onto the state’s Main Street program, which they also agreed to do.
