Milford Council Discusses Crowded Fire Station/City Administrator Duties

November 23, 2014

(Milford)– A space crunch at the fire station was discussed again at last night’s Milford City Council meeting.

The department will take delivery of a new rescue truck in December…but there isn’t any room for it in the fire station. To make room, the department needs to move an antique fire station, a back-up pumper and a pickup to a different location. Fire Chief Don Eckard told the council he thought he had found a suitable location. Turns out though it isn’t big enough. After discussing the matter at length, the council directed Eckard to look for more possible storage sites in the city and report back with costs.

The council also adopted an ordinance that further describes the responsibilities of the city administrator. The issue prompted plenty of discussion. Council member Terresa Netsch was concerned over language in the original draft of the ordinance…saying she wasn’t happy with provisions for the city administrator to delegate numerous duties. Netsch said the city administrator was hired under the premise of actually being responsible for those duties…such as grant writing.

The council eventually voted to adopt the first reading and waived the second and third readings with the changes in wording recommended by Netsch replacing the word “delegate” to “be responsible for” and that the city administrator will be “responsible for working with department heads”.
