(Milford)– The Milford city council Monday held the first consideration of an ordinance that would dictate the location of any sexually-oriented business that may locate in the city in the future.
City Administrator Brian Reed says the ordinance would limit sexually-oriented businesses to areas that are zoned light industrial. He says the goal is to keep them out of highly visible areas of the city. Reed says it’s much easier to do that than to ban that type of business altogether, which he says would probably be subject to a legal challenge.
The existing sexually-oriented business in Milford would be grandfathered in and allowed to stay in its present location, so long as it doesn’t cease operations for a period of 12 months or longer. Some council members said they want that timeframe reduced to six or even three months. That matter will be up for consideration at the next meeting of the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission.
