Milford Council Amends TIF District For Perkins Project

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– One of the last pieces in a puzzle to bring a Perkins restaurant to Milford is coming together.

The Milford city council Monday voted unanimously to amend the boundaries of a tax increment finance district to include the site of the new restaurant proposed to be built on a portion of the former Boji Bay property.

The council took the action following a public hearing that drew some concern from other restaurant owners and operators in town. Derek Chapas of Chap’s Club was among them. He feels the city shouldn’t be subsidizing businesses and is concerned over the potential risk to the city should the venture fail.

Mayor Virg Wahlman said he feels the benefits outweigh the concerns. He says the nationally-franchised restaurant could serve as an anchor to bring even more development to Milford and the former Boji Bay site, known as Boji Junction.

In addition to amending the tax increment finance district, the council also Monday approved a developer’s agreement with Big Game Enterprises, the company that’s developing the Perkin’s project; and they held the first reading of an ordinance that spells out how money from the revised TIF District is to be allocated.
