Milford City Council Gives Cool Response To YMCA Funding Request

November 23, 2014

(Milford)– A committee working to build a YMCA in Dickinson county made a formal request for funding from the Milford City Council Monday night. They came away empty-handed.

The committee is requesting 125-thousand dollars from the city.

Mayor Virg Wahlman and several council members said they’re concerned over the city’s financial picture right now…with a major rennovation of the downtown getting under way. They’re also concerned over the potential of cuts from the state. And the issue of “north Dickinson county versus south Dickinson county” also got tossed into the mix when discussion arose over the proposed location of the “Y” between Spirit Lake and Okoboji.

Council members said they’d be willing to reconsider the request after they have a better handle on finances.
