Meth Lab Discovery Makes For Tense Moments In Downtown Spencer

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– There were a few tense moments in downtown Spencer Sunday after law enforcement discovered a meth lab near an apartment building.

Spencer police were called to the apartment building in the 10th block of East First Street around 1:00 a.m. Sunday on a report of suspicious activity. Officers detected a chemical odor coming from the apartment building and contacted the State Fire Marshall immediately. The apartment building and homes on either side of the complex were evacuated as a precaution.

A search of the apartment was conducted that same morning after officers obtained a search warrant. Anhydrous ammonia, ether, lithium strips, and other meth-making materials were found along with the final stages of a “meth cook”.

Police say no arrests have been made yet, as their investigation continues.

The Spencer Fire Department, Spencer Hospital Paramedics Team and meth-lab technicians from the Pocahontas and O’Brien County Sheriff’s Offices assisted on the scene.
