March Closes On Very Warm, Snowless Note

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A month known for being the snowiest of the year is about to close out on a very abnormal note for the region.

March traditionally produces the highest amount of snow for the year. But it’s been far from that this year, with no measurable snow being reported at all during the month in the Iowa Great Lakes.

It was a welcome reprieve from earlier in the winter–especially December when the region was socked with some 35 inches of snow.

While we did pick up seven tenths of-an-inch of precipitation in March, it all was in the liquid form.

So for now atleast, our total snowfall for the season will stand at nearly 63 inches.

But if you think we’re out of the woods as far any more snow is concerned, think again. The month of April is also known for producing the white stuff. A storm on April 4th of last year dropped more than four inches of snow on the Iowa Great Lakes.
