Manure Spill Kills Fish In Lyon County Creek

November 22, 2014

(Rock Rapids)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says manure in runoff from a cattle feedlot is the apparent cause of a fish kill in a tributary of the Rock River in Lyon county.

Officials say an undetermined amount of manure got into Moon Creek…possibly as the result of heavy rain.

A large number of small fish in the creek were killed, including minnows and shiners.

The D-N-R is continuing its investigation.

The fish kill was discovered by a citizen.
