Man Faces Deportation After Being Stopped For Speeding

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– A traffic stop in Emmet county has resulted in deportation proceedings against a Mexican man.

Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens tells KUOO news it stems from a traffic stop around 5:00 p.m. this past Sunday in which a deputy pulled over a vehicle that was clocked at 98 miles-per-hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone on Highway nine east of Estherville.

Upon investigating it was determined the driver, 39-year-old Victor Alvarez, didn’t have a valid driver’s license.
Alvarez was placed under arrest and was booked into the Emmet county jail. He remained in custody until Tuesday when he was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers for deportation proceedings.
