(Spencer)– A Sioux Rapids man faces a charge for allegedly driving around a barricade on a flooded road.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it received a report of a vehicle in the water on 125th Avenue just north of Wanata State Park in Peterson around 9:20 a.m. Saturday. Upon arriving a deputy found a 2008 Chevrolet pickup about 50 to 75 yards into the water, which had pushed it off the edge of the road.
As the deputy was on the scene, authorities say the owner of the vehicle, 54-year-old Brian Halverson of Sioux Rapids showed up with a tractor to try to pull it out. The vehicle was removed without incident and Halverson was cited for going around the “road closed” sign.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources was also contacted.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
