(Spencer)– Unemployment in the Iowa Great Lakes Corridor in October increased to two-point-six percent…up slightly from two-point-five percent in September. Officials say the two-point-six percent local jobless rate in October compares with the statewide rate of four percent…which was up from three-point-nine percent in September and three-point-seven percent in October 2001.
According to the Corridor of Opportunity, actual employment for Clay and Dickinson counties edged down to 20,340. The number of persons employed is 1,130 more than a year ago, while the number of persons unemployed in the Corridor was 540…up 10 from last month and up 50 from a year ago.
Chad Shryock, Executive Director of the Corridor of Opportunity, expects the slight upward trend in unemployment to continue until it peaks around four percent in January or February before turning around the other way again.
