(Spirit Lake)– As is the case everywhere else, the Dickinson County Emergency Management Agency and local authorities are urging residents to be extra vigilant in light of what’s going on out east with anthrax infections and possible exposures. Anyone who sees anything out of the ordinary should report it to authorities. Same thing holds true if you receive any suspicious looking mail.
Dickinson County Emergency Services Coordinator Tim Kinnetz says residents need to be assurred that local authorities are prepared to deal with such reports and incidents and that they will actively investigate them. Kinnetz adds that anyone who gets caught perpetrating a hoax will be turned over to federal authorities and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
In the meantime, Kinnetz says we shouldn’t panic and continue on with our everyday routines. While our region is not a likely target for terrorists, Kinnetz says local law enforcement, emergency management, public health officials and others have plans and protocol in place and are confident they will be effective if needed.
