Local Officials Expect Higher Than Normal Demand For Heating Assistance

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A combination of colder than normal weather and increasing fuel costs have many people wondering how they’re going to pay their heating bills this winter.

Kami Roskam of the Spirit Lake Upper Des Moines Opportunity Office is urging low income residents to apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIEHEAP. Those applying will need to provide a copy of their most recent heat bill, the most recent electric bill, and proof of income either for the last three months or those who filed taxes last year may bring in their 2002 tax return.

The application period runs through April 15th, 2004.

Roskam says she’s processed more than 250 applications since the application period opened November 1st.

More information is available by contacting the Spirit Lake UDMO office at 336-1112.
