(Spencer)– A local National Guard Unit is being called back to active duty.
Major Greg Hapgood of the Iowa National Guard says 85 soldiers of the 1st battalion 194th Field Artillery are being called up as part of Operation Enduring Freedom and the global war on terrorism. Hapgood didn’t disclose the names of the soldiers being called up or where they’re headed to. They’ll be on active duty for 18 months.
The 1st battalion-194th has units stationed in Spencer, Estherville, Algona, Storm Lake and Fort Dodge.
A public send-off is scheduled for Wednesday, February 25th at 1:00 p.m. at the Armory in Fort Dodge.
The latest call-up involves 700 Iowa National Guard soldiers. Hapgood says their mission is to conduct close combat with enemy forces and provide security of key terrain, facilities and installations.
