Local Farmer’s Submission To Monsanto’s “Farmer’s Grow Communities Project” Awarded Funding

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A local farmer has been selected as a winner in Monsanto’s America’s “Farmer’s Grow Communities Project”.

Dan Dreeszen of rural Spirit Lake submitted an application through the program which gives farmers the opportunity to win $2,500 for their favorite local non-profit organization. The contest is open to farmers in each of Iowa’s 99 counties. Dreeszen’s application was selected as the winner for Dickinson county.

Dreeszen tells KUOO news he learned about the program through an advertisement in a farm publication and received more information via e-mail. From there, Dreeszen says he decided to apply.

Dreeszen donated the $2,500 to the Dickinson County Ag Society, which puts on the Dickinson County 4-H and FFA Fair each year. Tom Underwood, President of the Dickinson County Ag Society, says the money will likely be used to install sliding doors for the horse barn at the fairgrounds.

The donation was presented at Monday evening’s board meeting of the Dickinson County Ag Society.

Dreeszen says he’s grateful to Monsanto for putting on the program.
