(Alta)– A special honor for a northwest Iowa business.
Anemometry Specialists of Alta is the winner of the 2010 Iowa Small Business Persons of the Year Award through the Small Business Administration.
The wind energy assessment company installs towers that collect data such as temperatures, wind speed, barometric pressure, humidity and other data to determine whether a specific location is feasible for a wind farm.
The company is owned by Rob and Tara Hach, who started it in 2002. The business had two employees at the time and operated out of Hach’s attic.
The business has since expanded to 50-thousand square feet with 30 employees and two additional offices: one in Dumas, Texas, another in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Anemometry Specialists has installed over 1,500 data gathering towers, or “met” towers, around the country, including on mountain tops and islands, as well as several countries in South America and Africa.
