List Of Candidates Grows Again

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– If you thought the slate of political candidates for the November General Election was firmly set after the June Primary, think again.

Dickinson County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections, Nancy Reiman, says the list won’t be finalized until 5:00 p.m. this coming Wednesday. That’s the deadline for anyone wishing to file for a seat by petition. That’s also the latest any of the major political parties can select a nominee for a seat that no one ran for in the June Primary. They can do that by calling for a special party convention prior to the deadline.

So far, Reiman says two people have filed by petition for Dickinson County Board of Supervisors. Susan Clark, who was defeated for the Democratic nomination in district five, has filed by petition; along with Chris Hanson in District two. Clark will square off against Democrat Pat McNorton and Republican Pam Jordan. Hanson will go up against Democrat Mike Koppert and Republican Mardi Allen in District two.

To be nominated by petition, a candidate must receive 25 signatures from residents of the district in which he or she is running.
