(Undated)– An estimated 30 to 35 gallons of what was described as diluted liquid lawn fertilizer leaked as the result of a truck that overturned in a ditch Monday evening near a slough on the northwest side of Big Spirit Lake.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says Shane Young of Milford was northbound on Highway 276 and had just crossed into Minnesota when he lost control. The pickup, owned by the True Green Chem Lawn Fertilizer Company of Milford, flipped onto its side in the east ditch. A fiberglass tank containing the liquid fertilizer was ejected from the back of the pickup.
No injuries were reported to Young or two passengers.
The hazardous materials unit of the Minnesota Department of Transportation was contacted and it was determined the substance posed no hazards. The remaining fertilizer was pumped into containers.
The mishap took place around 7:15 p.m. about 30 feet into Minnesota.
