(Wallingford)– A few tense moments this (Tuesday) morning for occupants of a house near Wallingford.
Wallingford Fire Chief Jarrod Fischer says firefighters were called to 3521 220th Street around 7:45 a.m. on a report that a house had been struck by lightning. The occupants reported smelling smoke. But Fischer says firefighters couldn’t find any smoke or fire after thoroughly inspecting the house and its roof. Instead of hitting the house, Fischer says the lightning bolt hit a tree next to it, knocking off some limbs.
No injuries were reported.
The Estherville Fire Department was put on standby as a precaution.
Wallingford firefighters spent about 45 minutes making sure everything was alright.
