(Arnolds Park)– One person was seriously injured Thursday evening in a collision involving two personal watercraft on Lower Gar Lake near Woodley’s Trailer Court in Arnolds Park.
Bill Maas, an officer with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Lakes Patrol, tells KUOO news jet skis operated by 31-year-old Eric Gilbert and 24-year-old LeeAnn Simonson…both of LeMars…collided around 6:15 p.m.
Gilbert was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with a broken femur. He was later transferred to a Sioux City hospital.
Simonson refused treatment on the scene.
Maas says the jet ski operated by Gilbert sustained extensive damage. He says only very minor damage was reported to the one operated by Simonson. Both jet skis were rental units.
Maas says both Gilbert and Simonson apparently managed to get back on the machines and made it back to shore on their own power.
He says the collision remains under investigation.
