(Des Moines)– An Iowa legislative committee Wednesday took up the issue of hoglots in light of a four thousand head operation being built southwest of Milford and a 7,200-head operation proposed in northeast Iowa.
State Representative Greg Stevens of Milford is the ranking member of the Oversight Committee. Stevens says the group voted to review the Iowa Department of Natural Resources permitting and enforcement procedures. Stevens says the review won’t start until after the legislature convenes in January.
Stevens says the Oversight Committee carries a lot of weight with the full legislature and he’s hopeful it could open the door to finally getting something substantial done on the issue of large feedlots.
