Lawmakers Discuss Possible Ethanol Mandate At Eggs & Issues

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Whether or not ethanol use should be mandated in Iowa was a subject of discussion at Saturday’s Eggs and Issues legislative forum in Spencer.

Emmetsburg Representative Marcie Frevert spoke in favor of a mandate, saying this is a very opportune time to establish a mandate with crude oil at 52-dollars a barrell.

But State Senator David Johnson of Ocheyedan says you can forget about an ethanol mandate passing this legislative session. He says support is severely lacking.

Co-President of the Senate, Jack Kibbie of Emmetsburg, along with Senator Hauser, a Carson, Iowa Republican, have introduced an ethanol mandate in the Senate. Kibbie is confident he can get the bill passed in that chamber. But Republican leaders in the House have made it clear they will NOT bring the bill up for debate this session.
