(Spencer)– If there’s one sector of the population that should experience a high voter turnout next month it’s senior citizens. Atleast that’s the feelings of Cynthia Beauman, Director of the Spencer-based Northwest Aging Association. Beaumann says seniors have a lot riding on this election with important issues like the future of the Iowa Department of Elder Affairs, restoring money taken from the senior living trust to bail out the state’s budget, elder abuse, prescription drugs and funding for community and home-based services.
Beauman says she’s disappointed neither of the major party candidates for Governor have said much about them so far in their campaigns. But she vows seniors will hold the candidate’s feet to the flames. Beauman says there will be a candidate’s forum this Friday in Des Moines addressing those issues. She says a delegation of seniors from northwest Iowa will be there. Anyone interested in attending should contact the Northwest Aging Association in Spencer to work out car pooling arrangements.
