November 22, 2014

(Undated)– Strong thunderstorms pummelled parts of the region late Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Although the Spirit Lake area missed out on the rain and severe activity altogether, it was a different storys in southeastern Dickinson county. Three-quarter inch hail was reported by the public three miles northeast of Terril around 4:30 p.m. In O’Brien county, hail an inch in diameter clobbered the Paullina area between 4:30 and 4:45 p.m.

Three quarter inch hail was reported six miles north of Dickens and in the Sheldon area. To the north, hail nearly two inches in diameter plunked Welcome, Minnesota.

Strong wind knocked out power to residents in Mallard, Armstrong and Ringsted. Windows were blown out of a house north of Webb and a hog house was destroyed.

Rainfall amounts varied greatly…ranging from a half-inch in Estherville to nearly three and-a-half inches in Armstrong to absolutely no rain in Spirit Lake.
