(Okoboji)– The Lakes Art Center’s expansion project has been awarded a 250-thousand dollar grant through Vision Iowa’s Community Attraction and Tourism program. The announcement was made at yesterday’s Vision Iowa board meeting in Des Moines.
While they’re very pleased by the announcement, Paula Henry, the Lakes Art Center’s Executive Director, says there’s a string attached. They have to raise another 350-thousand prior to actually receiving the 250-thousand from Vision Iowa. They have until September 1st to raise the money.
Henry says there’s no doubt the funding commitments from the various cities and the county played a major role in the landing the Vision Iowa grant.
The expansion includes the Lauridsen Performing Arts Center…slated for completion late this summer; along with the interactive “Art-Smart” gallery and the Pomerantz Multi-purpose Hall…scheduled for completion this June.
