Lakes Area Motel Re-Opens Following Fire

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Things are getting back to normal at a lakes area motel following a fire Monday evening.

Wayne Crystal, owner of the Northland Inn, tells KUOO news the motel opened back up for business today (Tuesday). He says the two rooms affected the most by the fire are being fixed back up, and all the rooms are being professionally cleaned.

Spirit Lake firefighters were called to the Northland Inn around 8:00 p.m. Monday. Assistant Fire Chief Joe Jennings, Senior says the fire originated on the south side of the building at the entryway to two rooms. He says the smoky fire was the result of an electrical short in a control for some exterior lights.

Crystal extends his gratitude to the Spirit Lake Fire Department for their quick response and hard work. He says if it had been another five minutes, it would have been much worse.

Spirit Lake firefighters were on the scene slightly more than two hours.

The fire resulted in the evacuation of the business and guests were sent to another motel for the night Monday.

No injuries were reported.
