(Lake Park)– A long-time fixture on Silver Lake Park in Lake Park has been destroyed by fire.
Lake Park Fire Chief Al Detlefsen tells KUOO news his department was called to the restaurant/office at Soddy’s Resort shortly after 4:00 a.m. this (Monday) morning. Upon arriving, Detlefsen says the building was fully engulfed with flames shooting through the roof. He says all they could do was keep the blaze from spreading to some nearby cabins, which they were able to do.
The cause of the blaze is undetermined. It’s under investigation by the State Fire Marshall’s Office.
Detlefsen says the blaze was discovered by some people camping nearby, who called 911 and notified the owner who lives in a residence next to the restaurant building.
No injuries were reported.
Detlefsen says some people staying in some of the cabins were evacuated as a precaution.
Lake Park firefighters were on the scene about four hours this (Monday) morning.
There was no immediate word on a dollar estimate of the loss.
